Arthur David McCormick (1860 – 1943) was a British artist known for his landscapes, historical scenes, naval subjects, and genre paintings. This painting depicts the historical meeting between Sir Francis Drake and Sir Martin Frobisher as they discuss strategies to thwart the impending threat of the Spanish Armada in 1587. Set against a backdrop of the inside of a ship, in the captain’s headquarters surrounded ships surrounded by naval paraphernalia, the piece captures the moment when these English naval commanders plan their counterattack. With meticulous attention to detail, McCormick brings to life the tension and determination that defined this crucial moment in maritime history.

February was a month of planning, strategy, and figuring out how I would achieve my goals, with various health issues peppered into the mix. The beginning of the year is always a turbulent period: events, birthdays, end of summer holidays,[1] and back to work creating a period of not knowing the difference between up and down, left to right, and what the hell I am doing with my time and how is it going so fast.

So, while recovering from my health issues, I had a look at what goals I had set for myself last year, and despite them not being outlandish, I am still not sure if I will be able to achieve them. The core two things to accomplish this year are:

  1. Finish my PhD.
  2. Grow Art History By Me

On the PhD front, I found out that my final milestone will be in late May, while the due date of my thesis is the 25th of December 2024. Yep, you read that correctly: Christmas Day, the university is not even open because it is the summer holidays. This last month, I had been trying to figure out how I would achieve it, and honestly, I was delusional. There was a minimal chance of me completing this work by the end of the year in its current state. Having realised this, I returned to the drawing board and started thinking about what I currently have regarding my thesis and how I write. My writing methodology and my writing structure, per se, are comprehensive. I like to go through lots of details and have a solid literature analysis of every artwork and subject, whether in the body of work or my footnotes. I have realised that I could probably narrow down my research again and focus only on one specific time instead of a far-reaching one, which is feasible. I have messaged my supervisor and will meet with him to discuss my plans. I will keep you posted.

Now, regarding the site, I will have to put it on the back burner for a while. I need to make some serious head with my PhD, which is my priority now. Once I have gotten to a better place with my writing, I plan to start working on it again, but blogs will have to do for now.

Love Me,
